Rossdale Homes’ Proud Contribution to a Landmark Sustainable Community

At Rossdale Homes, we were proud to make a significant contribution to the Lochiel Park Green Village — one of South Australia’s most ambitious and forward-thinking residential developments.

Announced in 2004 by then-Premier Mike Rann, Lochiel Park was designed as a model "Green Village," combining sustainable housing with extensive parklands and a strong focus on environmental responsibility. It set a new benchmark for how communities can be built to respond to climate change, reduce emissions, and promote sustainable living.

Our Role in the Development

Lochiel Park gave home builders a rare opportunity to help shape the future of sustainable construction. Rossdale Homes was one of the key builders involved, working alongside others to bring this vision to life. We embraced the challenge of incorporating cutting-edge environmental technologies and design principles into every home we built.

From planning through to construction, we focused on meeting — and exceeding — the high sustainability standards set for the project.

Building Better Homes for a Greener Future

• High Energy Efficiency: Every home in Lochiel Park was required to achieve a minimum 7.5-star energy efficiency rating. Our builds featured solar photovoltaic systems, solar hot water, efficient insulation, and passive solar design, resulting in a 64% average reduction in energy use (compared to a standard 2004 home).
• Reduced Emissions: Homes achieved a 74% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions — helping residents live more sustainably and affordably.
• Water Smart Design: We integrated rainwater reuse systems and recycled stormwater for toilets, laundry, and irrigation. This contributed to an impressive 78% reduction in potable water use.
• Innovative Milestones: The development also saw the construction of South Australia’s first zero-carbon home in 2013 — a symbol of how far sustainable homebuilding can go.
